Big Companies get it wrong too!
This is the link to an on-line version of some unsolicited email marketing sent to me by Norwich Union.
There's a special prize awaiting the first person who can find the legally required opt-out mechanism on this form of direct marketing.
Privacy Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR)
23.A person shall neither transmit, nor instigate the transmission of, a communication for the purposes of direct marketing by means of electronic mail—
(a) where the identity of the person on whose behalf the communication has been sent has
been disguised or concealed; or
(b) where a valid address to which the recipient of the communication may send a request
that such communications cease has not been provided.
Or are they implying that the line "To book your next holiday Call 0870 758 0192 (quoting NORW5). Calls may be recorded and/or monitored." is sufficient to meet the requirements of PECR
Let's see what the Information Commissioner has to say about it ;-)
